France records 368,149 new infections

France has recorded a record high of more than 368,000 new CoV infections registered within one day. According to data released by the French health authority last night, 368,149 new infections were reported within 24 hours. The previous high, set last Wednesday, had been 332,252 registered infections.

Case numbers in France have skyrocketed over the past few weeks. The omicron variant of coronavirus is now prevalent in the country. The incidence value was most recently 2,790 nationwide, which indicates how many infections were recorded within a week converted to 100,000 people. The current incidence means that statistically 2.79 percent of the total population of France was infected with the coronavirus within one week.

Also peak in Italy and Germany
In Italy, 220,532 new CoV infections were recorded in the past 24 hours. This is a new record since the pandemic broke out in February 2020, Italian health authorities reported. In addition, 294 deaths were recorded.

For Germany, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 80,430 new infections likewise – more than at any time since the outbreak of the pandemic. The nationwide 7-day incidence rose from 387.9 to 407.5. 384 people died within 24 hours in connection with the virus. This brought the number of reported deaths in Germany to 114,735.
